French cuisine is often associated with fine cuisine or haute cuisine. Some recipe is also called Parisian onion soup, but generally these recipes are the same. French onion soup is especially popular on the colder autumn and winter days.
The ingredients for 4 servings:
- Cut 500g onions into thin rings
- 40 g of butter
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1/4 l white wine
- 1 l meat broth (chicken or beef)
- 20 g of flour
- 100 g of grated hard cheese
- Salt and black pepper
- 4 bread slices (white bread)
Cut the onions into rings and the garlic into fine cubes.
Heat the butter in a saucepan and put the onions and garlic in it. Roast them until a light yellow color is produced. Add the flour and sweat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Fill the broth and white wine, stir and cook for 20 minutes over low heat. Taste with salt and pepper.
Toast the debarked slices of bread vigorously and place them in a fireproof mold. Pour the soup on top and sprinkle with the grated cheese. Bake in preheated oven at 230 ° on the top rail. Serve soup hot.
A salty cake with onions
Make a simple onion cake

The required ingredients
For the dough:
- 1 packet of dry yeast
- 50 g of butter
- 220 ml of water
- 450 g of flour
- 1 pinch of salt and sugar
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 800 g of onions
- 200 g bacon
- 200 ml of cream
- 3 eggs
- 250 g of cheese
- Salt, nutmeg and pepper for seasoning
Savory cake with onions
Put the flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a bowl. Press a trough in the middle and add the cold water. Add the soft butter and knead everything into a dough. Let rest for 30 minutes.
On a work surface that has been sprinkled with flour, roll out the dough for the baking sheet. Then lay on the metal sheet and push the edges upwards.
In another bowl mix the eggs and the cream with the whisk or blender and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Heat the oil and butter in a pan. Add the sliced onions and the bacon, finely chopped and fry until golden. Remove from the heat and add the egg mass. Stir, season and season again as needed.
Put the filling on the dough, sprinkle with cheese and bake in preheated open at 200 ° for about 30 minutes.
